The CBCIU hosted a National Workshop on Cultural
Icons in Africa and African Diaspora in Time Perspective today at the Conference Room 01 today, December 20, 2018.
The intellectual occasion was held to round off an exciting year which
witnessed a celebration of great icons and the resounding legacies they left on the global scene.
The panel of 19 distinguished scholars from across Nigeria was chaired by the amiable
Dr. Senayon Olaoluwa whose interesting keynote address touched on cultural icons in Africa
and the African Diaspora, linking their actions to the strength, intellectualism and resilience of the African.
he said. Cultural icons such as Luwo Gbagida, Amilca Cabral, Shaka de Zulu,
Nelson Mandela, Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, Ayinla Omowura, Chimamanda Adichie, Walter Rodney, Haruna Ishola,
Yusuf Olatunji, Moremi and a host of others were not only biographically introduced to the general public
by the presenters but their cultural significance adequately examined. It is hoped that the communique derived from the workshop
will engender a more robust discussion and possibly book publication in the coming year.
On behalf of the Chairman Board of Trustees, the Executive Director and
members of staff of the CBCIU, we thank and appreciate the presence of all guests and participants who closed the year with us on a promising note. We also express
our gratitude to the keynote speaker and all paper presenters for sharing their thoughts with us.
