Aderemi Suleiman Ajala was born in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government, Osun State where he had both elementary and secondary education. He attended the then Oyo State College of Arts and Science for A level certificate. He also attended University of Ibadan and Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria where he had B.A (Hons), M.A and PhD in Anthropology and African Studies; LL.B (Hons), LL.M in International Law and another M.Sc International Relations. He is currently a Professor of Medical Anthropology and Development Studies.
Professor Aderemi Ajala was a recipient of many CODESRIA fellowship (Senegal), British Academy fellowship, Cadbury fellowship (UK), Rockefeller fellowship (US/Italy), Alexandra von Humboldt fellowship (Germany) and Rhodes Fellowship (South Africa). He has won several research grants from CLSPR (Canada); NSF (US); AvH (Germany); EU research grants; Senate Research Grant (UI-Ibadan) and CODESRIA (Senegal).
Prof. Ajala has published four textbooks: Rural Health Provisioning (Peter Lang, Germany, 2006); Nationalism and Politics in Postcolonial Nigeria (Rudigger Koepel Verlag, 2011), Yoruba Nationalism: Politics, Culture and Violence in southwestern Nigeria (Rudigger Koepel Verlag, 2013) and Indigenous Epistemology (African Ethnography, Ibadan 2020). His academic publications have also appeared in commissioned edited books and journals both local and international. His current research is on Negotiation in Cultural Production being funded by research Grants of Group Research Linkage of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2021-2023). Professor Ajala is a Chief Editor of African Ethnography. He is a visiting lecturer to some Universities in U.K, Germany, South Africa, and U.S.
